ABOUT US
The band formed in 2004 with original members who had a shared desire to play the music of their roots music heroes. Andrew McNiven (bass) and John Nolan (guitar) were later joined by Bob Macqueen (drums) and Paul Bird (sax/clarinet/flute) as well as Frank Bird (keyboard). The band's evolution has encompassed more sophisticated arrangement touches without losing the spontaneity of their fundamentally blues and roots-based approach to the re-imagining of classic and more obscure material.
The Hoochies are fortunate to have three songwriters, each contributing a complementary style, rich in influences.
In addition to our rapidly expanding original material, we play an eclectic mix of classic, contemporary and jump blues, jazz and latin based grooves, country styles and a selection of soul and funk material reflecting our diverse makeup.
The influences that guide the band musically are too many and diverse to list. The band strives not to take itself or its material too seriously, sharing the view that the most important thing we do is to entertain the audience.
